Tati Incorporation, a charitable organization founded by Cary and Tanya Ragbeer, has generously donated approximately 1,000 audiobooks to Project Star, an initiative aimed at fostering literacy and imparting essential life lessons to children in Jamaica. The donation is part of Tati Incorporation’s broader mission to encourage a love for reading through engaging and interactive storytelling.
Cary Ragbeer expressed his belief that these audiobooks are a perfect fit for the initiative, emphasizing their potential to inspire children to develop a passion for reading. “It has been our experience that children love these books,” said Cary. “We decided to assist in helping children in Jamaica develop a love of reading.”
The donated audiobooks are highly regarded for their quality and engaging content, featuring the character Shaggy Parrot and his reggae band. The voice of Shaggy Parrot is provided by the renowned Jamaican artiste Shaggy, adding an authentic and entertaining touch to the stories. The books, created by Jana Bent with music produced by her brother, Rupert Bent, are not only entertaining but also carry important messages, such as environmental awareness and the importance of recognizing children’s voices.
The donated collection includes the second and third books in the Shaggy Parrot series, each featuring lively songs by well-known Jamaican artists. The interactive read-along format, combined with the engaging music, enhances the reading experience, making it more enjoyable for children and helping to instill important values.
Cary Ragbeer highlighted the impact these books can have on children and their communities, stating, “We hope the recipients enjoy the storyline and the characters, and in doing so, grasp the broader messages taught by the books.”
Keith Duncan, co-chair of Project Star, expressed gratitude for the donation and announced that the audiobooks will be integrated into Project Star’s programmes, particularly in the homework programme established in Parade Gardens in east downtown Kingston. “The donation of these books has been a tremendous gift to our organisation. Not only do they provide children with access to high-quality and engaging stories, but they also instill important values and a love of reading that will last a lifetime. We are incredibly grateful for this support and excited to see the positive impact it will have on the homework programme,” Duncan said.
This contribution by Tati Incorporation is set to make a lasting impact on the literacy and educational development of children involved in Project Star, providing them with both entertainment and valuable life lessons through the power of storytelling.
