Rasheed Broadbell delivered a standout performance at the Stade de France on Thursday evening, clocking a season’s best of 13.09 seconds (-0.1m/s) to secure a bronze medal in the 110m hurdles at the Paris Olympic Games. This marks Jamaica’s sixth medal of the Games, adding to their tally of one gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.
For Broadbell, the Commonwealth Games champion, this medal represents sweet redemption after a disappointing outing at last year’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, where he was heavily favored to medal but failed to complete the first round.
In a thrilling finish, Broadbell and American Daniel Roberts were both credited with the same time, but it was Broadbell who edged ahead by mere thousandths of a second to claim the bronze. The race was dominated by Grant Holloway, who secured his first Olympic title with a time of 12.99 seconds, adding to his three World Athletics Championships gold medals.
Orlando Bennett, another Jamaican in the final, finished seventh with a time of 13.34 seconds, while Hansle Parchment, the defending Olympic champion from the Tokyo 2020 Games, placed eighth with a time of 13.39 seconds.
Broadbell’s bronze is a significant achievement, underscoring his resilience and determination, and further cementing Jamaica’s presence on the world stage in track and field.
