Government Senator Abka Fitz-Henley has confirmed that Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, has been admitted to intensive care. The minister, who has been unwell, is expected to be released soon.
Senator Fitz-Henley, reportedly authorized by Minister Grange to speak on her behalf, shared that despite her health challenges, the minister has remained actively engaged in monitoring developments, including the ongoing Olympic Games.
During his statement, Fitz-Henley extended Minister Grange’s congratulations to Rasheed Broadbell, who secured a bronze medal in the men’s 110m hurdles at the Paris Olympic Games on Thursday. She also acknowledged the efforts of fellow Jamaican athletes Hansle Parchment and Orlando Bennett, who also competed in the finals of the event.
The senator conveyed Minister Grange’s gratitude for the well wishes she has received and assured the public that she is hopeful for a swift recovery. “I spoke to the minister not too long ago and she has asked me to indicate that she is grateful for the good wishes and expects to be well soon,” Fitz-Henley stated.
The specific reason for Minister Grange’s hospitalisation has not been disclosed. Her absence was noted at the Independence Grand Gala held at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
